In tough economic times people have always lost jobs as many industries try to stay in business. Because of this many displaced employees are looking for a way to make a living. Franchises seem to do better than other career choice paths mainly because they have a proven model for success. While nothing is guaranteed when you open a franchise it seems a better bet than opening a private business. The main reason is that the person that opens a franchise will have brand recognition right away.
There is also a wide variety of franchises to choose from so this makes them more attractive as well. If you come from a specific career there is most likely a franchise that would fit well with what you already have training in. Even if you don’t have a specific career the franchise will give you all the training and support that is needed. They offer ongoing training, marketing either regional or national and you can network with other franchise owners.
Fast food franchises are probably the most well known. You see these names worldwide although some are specific to the UK. You could be interested in owning a coffee franchise, a pizza franchise, ice cream franchise or a chicken restaurant. Some of the franchises are from the United States, Australia or South Africa. Singapore, France and India also offer franchises in the UK and they can be for doughnuts, a themed bar or standard fare.
The price of a franchise may seem reasonable compared to starting your own restaurant. You will have the franchise fee and then you will be expected to share the profits of the business once it is opened. This percentage could be paid monthly or quarterly. It all depends on the franchise.
Selling a franchise business may also be easier once you are ready to retire or move on. Again you will have an established business that has been proven to work so it can be more desirable to someone just getting into business. There are rules of course for reselling franchises that must be met, but there are issues with selling any business
.A franchise will have definite rules that must be followed so be prepared to follow the franchise plan, not your own. Even if you have a great idea you probably won’t be able to use it because it isn’t part of the franchise plan. This may be too restrictive for some business people. You will have to take into consideration many aspects of a franchise business before you actually purchase one.
You can visit many of the franchises before you decide to become an owner, especially if it is a restaurant franchise. You can talk with the owner and see how they feel about the franchise. Oftentimes successful franchise owners will have more than one store which speaks well for the franchise you are looking to start. Always take the time to do your research before committing to a business of any sort as it will be a life changing commitment.
